CONFESS
TO ONE ANOTHER
Confess
your trespasses to one another,... James 5:16
[NKJV]
A
"One Anothering" Thought
Confess
means:
- to acknowledge
- to declare
- to reveal
James says that we
believers should acknowledge any wrongful action we may have done
to one another. We should declare any offense we may have for
our brothers and sisters in the Lord. We should reveal our sins
to God, but at times, also to our brethren, so that God may work through them
to give us the help and strength we need to be
overcomers. Also, one of our brothers or sisters in the Lord may be having the same problem with the sin or offense that we are having, and hearing us confess our weakness may be just what they need to give them hope that they are not alone in their dilemma. Confession often opens the door to healing for us, as well as for others.
ONE-ANOTHERING IN ACTION: Confession
is a difficult thing to do. It is hard to reveal sins, shortcomings or offenses to
one another. It is hard to declare our weaknesses or
acknowledge that we have fallen short somewhere. But, God has
told us to do this for a reason. He doesn't want us holding onto grudges or offenses against one another. As His Body on earth we gain strength
from one another as we unite in one accord and help one another to
overcome the world, the flesh and the devil. Let's be willing
and obedient to confess our sins to the Lord and to one another,
as the Lord directs. Then the Lord can bring
forgiveness, unity, joy, and peace into our lives as we do
so.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 [NKJV]
