Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
The teacher of religious law replied, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth by saying that there is only one God and no other. And I know it is important to love him with all my heart and all my understanding and all my strength, and to love my neighbor as myself. Mark 12:29-33 NLT
There is only one God. The two most important commandments are: Love God with your whole being and Love Your Neighbor as yourself.
Live It Out:
Jesus is reminding us once again today of the two most important commandments. We need to listen and remind ourselves of these daily.
Each day we need to be sure we are loving God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength. And then, we need to love our neighbor as ourselves.
Here is a reminder of what Love is according to 1 Corinthians 13:4-7–Read it and then ask yourself if this is how you love God and love yourself and your neighbor.
Love is patient and kind.
Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.
It does not demand its own way.
It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.
It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out
Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
